05th Anniversary Celebration of Codesep
“…….All the stakeholders should focus more attention on the Plight of the People of the Plantation Sector…….”
says the Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka says at the 05th Anniversary Celebration of Codesep-Deniyaya in the Diocese of Galle.
 The 05th Anniversary celebrations of Codesep- Community Development Services for Plantations in the Diocese of Galle- were held on 05th March at the Codesep Auditorium at Deniayaya,under the Patronage of His Excellency ,Most Rev.Joseph Spitery, The Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka.
The celebration began with a welcome to his Excellency with Traditional Dance and Music of the Plantation People and the opening of the Exhibition by the Beneficieries of Codesep Programme.
Addressing the large gathering of Inter religious dignitaries, Government Officers, Representatives of Estate Managements ,School Children , Community Leaders of Codesep SHGs and well wishers, the Nuncio further said “……….I see this land of Sri Lanka as a beautiful country…but …unfortunately the life and life situations of the Plantation workers who have even sacrificed even their life and rendered a yeoman service to make this land more beautiful, is not that Beautiful. It is so saddening to note that they who have been contributing their mite for the economy and the total development of the land, have been living under unfortunate conditions and situations for almost two centuries. While acknowledging some of the achievements that have been made ,there is so much to be planned ,coordinated and implemented to better the life of this underprivileged sector of Society.
Hence I call upon all the stakeholders in both religious ,Social and Political spheres to focus their attention to develop Progammes and Projects to overcome the Plight of this People…more importantly on the Education and Basic needs that contribute to the total human development which will make them a Dignified Community of People.
I also call upon the People of the Plantation Sector,who are the Beneficieries of Programmes implemented by Organizations such as Codesep, to forget the differences and social scars among themselves and be ready for Change and to cooperate with all those who would assist them in order to come up in life. They should also develop their capabilities both individually and collectively and also recover from the mentality of dependency ,which has damaged their Growth in all the spheres of life in Society.
I wish and pray that their life situation will be better developed in the future. I congratulate Codesep for its achievements with in a short period of 05 years………”
Very Rev.Fr.Nihal Nanayakara ,the Diocesan Administrator and Rev.Fr. Damian Arsakularatne ,the Sed Galle also addressed the gathering.
His excellency also visited a few Estates which are project locations to see for himself the activities of Development Progamme of Codesep.
